Sometimes when I'm doing my dynamics homework, the gyri and suci of my head constantly pitch the option of switching to industrial design. Will that be done? Probably not, however considering that it's been just me creating the logo, the site, and now the first backpack--the temptation is rising. That being said, "we" are now in the process of prototyping the first pack.
Ladies and gentleman, I give you the sketches of the Pedernal Manzano. The vision for this pack is a suspended mesh "trampoline" style backpack similar to our competitors such as the Gregory Zulu 30 or Osprey Stratus 24. Still the second draft such it will be edited countless times but if I manage to overcome my lack of experience in backpack design--it will be a multi-sport gear hauler that although loves being used as a hiking pack, will be perfectly at home on the water or on the crag.
For prototyping, we are currently stuck with a cardboard box with a sharpie marking where features will be placed. Next week will see a trip up north to hunt for basic materials and a sewing machine to create the first--albeit sketchy--actual prototype; most likely using a car antenna as a substitute for a wire frame. Unless, someone somewhere happens to know a former employee who may have worked at similar companies that would be willing to be paid to build a proper prototype or at least consult on building one.
